My 5 Personal Goals for 2018

When I first started writing this post, I was going to share all of my goals for 2018 at one time, but quickly realized, it was too much. Maybe this is a sign that I’m being too ambitious?!

Luckily, my goals ended up working out in a way that I really couldn’t have planned any better if I tried. Half the goals I wrote down are personal, and the other half focused on my business.

So, since there seems to be a clear divide in my goals, I’m going to divvy this post up into two different blog posts, this one to share my personal goals, and next week will be dedicated to sharing my business goals.

And, to take it a step further, I’ll be sharing why I choose each of these goals because, at the end of the day, I believe the why is the most important part 😉

Breaking up my goals for 2018 into two parts: personal and business. I’m sharing my 5 personal goals in today’s post, focusing on growth, our home, and travel. Click to see what they are.

My Personal Goals for 2018

1 | Read 20 Books

Why: As someone who loves to read but has only reserved reading for vacations and days at the beach (which were few and far between in 2017) I want to intentionally carve out time for me to read, even if it is just 10 minutes a day.

Reading is powerful, and it shouldn’t just be reserved for when I have downtime. So, as part of my goals for 2018, I am focusing on reading 20 books, 10 just-for-fun and 10 for business! I’ll be sure to share my picks in an upcoming blog post.

2 | Run a 15k in March and a Half Marathon in October!

Why: As a former college runner it’s really sad to say I’ve never run a half marathon. *gasps* I know… what kind of runner am I? It’s not to say I haven’t thought about or even tried training for one, it just never happened. And, after multiple injuries and a much-needed hiatus from running, I feel I’m ready to revisit training again. Not to mention, training takes a lot of time, and while I was on the road to full time, training wasn’t a top priority.

Note – there is a difference between training for a 15k or half marathon and getting up and running a mile or so to stay active. Training requires a lot more time and effort, you know so one can be prepared to run 13.1 miles!

3 | Travel to Greece and Italy

Why: I mean, why not?! Michael and I love to travel. I wish I could go somewhere new every month. Yes, I know theoretically it is possible, but we aren’t willing to give up our roots to just travel across the world – although I think it would be really cool! So, instead we like to plan a big trip each year, preferably somewhere we haven’t gone before.

Italy is actually a place I’ve been a few times, but we changed our plans this year so we can go with my entire family, including my grandma! Our goal is to meet them in Italy, and have a little rendezvous in Greece before or after joining them in Tuscany!

So, if you have any recommendations for Greece, please share! We are thinking Santorini, but would love your thoughts if you’ve been!

4 | Date My Husband

Why: you know when you get so busy trying to make your business work, you’re busy with house renovation projects, your husband is on the road all the time, and you become a well-oiled machine, you forget to go on new adventures, oh, is that just us? Mhhkay.

Well, last year our well-oiled machine ran really well, but we missed out on spontaneous adventures and relaxing beach days (one of our favorites!), so this is to help us intentionally set up time for us to focus on having adventures, like day dates – you know kayaking, hiking, checking out a new lunch spots, those types of things! We’re making sure we schedule 2 dates a month, one date night and one day date. I’m really looking forward to dating my husband!

My parents still go on dates and I think it is the cutest – I want to be just like them when I grow up <3

5 | Give Back

Why: There are so many organizations that I want to become more actively a part of. I used to sit on the board for CAPtivators and I miss it. It’s been 3 years since I was on their board, and I think it’s time to get back to focusing on important matters. Helping where I can, and contributing my time in a positive way.

Every year Michael and I raise funds for The National MS Society, an organization that is near and dear to my heart because my grandfather suffered from MS. I’m thinking about taking a more active role in supporting them this year.

CAPtivators was also an amazing group to be part of because they focus on arts in inner city areas for kids.

Do you have any organizations you absolutely love? I’d love to hear about them!

“there’s nothing magical about January 1st.”
– Lara Casey

If you’re looking at this new month, the second month of the year, feeling behind, like you haven’t set your goals yet, remember there is nothing magical about January 1st. You can start today or any day! Spend some time writing out your goals, identifying what you want to focus on and get to it!

Cheers to making your dreams a reality!
