Inspiration for a Night In: A Beautiful Boho Chic Picnic

This backyard dinner party was magical. Check out this boho chic dinner party!

I’ve been dreaming of a fun-filled evening under the lights for quiet some time. And this beautiful night in with a boho chic backyard dinner party was everything I dreamt of and more. I invited a few of my girlfriends over and we had so much fun. We laughed, we drank, and we had an amazing time. And when your gal pals consist of a blogger, a hair stylist, a floral designer and a photographer, creating this ahh-mazing boho chic picnic became that much more fun!

How to Create a Boho Chic Picnic

Creating a beautiful night in with your closest gal pals doesn’t have to be difficult or costly. The beauty of hosting a bohemian themed dinner party is that the style is eclectic and pulls together a variety of patterns, colors and accessories.

The decor used for our celebration were items I already had around the house, we just had to rearrange a little. We took the outdoor rugs from our patio and moved them to the grass, adding a few more towels and blankets to ensure we covered the space well. We moved the tabletop from our brand new dining room table (eek, this part was a little scary!) outside and positioned it on buckets to give it the low, intimate feel we were going for. Then I ran around the house grabbing all the pillows.

If you don’t have a dining room table where the tabletop is easily removable, you can use multiple coffee tables or grab cinderblocks and plywood cut to size to create a low outdoor table. Pallets would even work!

We strung the string lights from our engagement party on stands Jeni had, providing the final touch needed for an intimate outdoor dinner party.

Creating the Tablescape

My favorite part of this gathering was the beautiful tablescape. It was the perfect way to create an outdoor bohemian look without a ton of money. Jeni picked all the florals from the yard and common area of the neighborhood (shh! don’t tell my association). We added in fruit to give it a touch of color. And layered it all together.

Layers are essential for creating a beautiful floral centerpiece

Jeni shared her tips on how to create a gorgeous centerpiece with me, and she said layers and different textures are key! It’s important to bring in various sizes, textures and colors to create a visually appealing arrangement. She also reminded me to have fun with it! It is an art and the more you play around the better you become. Try it out and see how you like it. For this arrangement, we used a tablerunner to line the table and palm fronds as the base and literally just built upon it by adding lots of layers. Because these were not sitting in water, they will not last days, but that’s okay for an outdoor dinner party!

We even DIY’d the napkins, get step-by-step directions with this tutorial.

Bohemian Style: Outfit Details

Maxi Dress (currently 40% off!!)  //  Hair: Gems by Jojo  //  Arrow Bangle (old, similar here)

As soon as I laid eyes on this maxi while shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, I knew I had to have it. It’s perfect for Florida living! And the adorable arrows on this dress give it a subtle bohemian look that was too perfect not to wear for our girls night in. Truly completing this look was the hair style. I envy the girls that have natural thick, long, gorgeous hair (can’t you tell?!), so JoJo and I decided to have some fun! She added in extensions and gave me a beautiful side swept carefree do that normally is nothing but a dream.
