How to Make Spooky Boo Brownies for Halloween

Friends, I am so excited to share a guest blog post by my beautiful friend, Lindsey, on how she successfully made Spooky Boo Brownies!

how to make spooky boo brownies for halloween dessert

This past weekend my husband and I hosted a pumpkin carving party at our place. We kept it easy and asked everyone to bring an appetizer or dessert.

When Lindsey walked in the most adorable spooky boo brownies I ever did see, I was smitten. They are seriously the cutest!

And, once it was time for dessert, they were oh so delicious! I may have had more than my fair share :0

During the night, Lindsey shared how she thought this was going to be total Pinterest fail, and it was seriously the furthest thing from it, I knew she had to share! So without further ado, I present Lindsey’s approach to Spooky Boo Brownies:

I’m sure you scroll through Pin’s and think, “How adorable I want to make this, or that!”  Then self-doubt kicks in …”What if it’s a classic Pin Fail?”

Not this time!

Betty Crocker’s Spooky Boo Brownies Recipe on Pinterest inspired me.

Original Brownie Ingredients

  • 1 box (1 lb 6.25 oz) Betty Crocker™ Supreme original brownie mix  (follow the recipe on the box)
  • 1 ¼ cups Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy White frosting (from 16-oz container)
  • 16 large marshmallows Betty Crocker™ black decorating gel (from 0.68-oz tube)

Modifications to Ingredients

  • I used Wilton’s Spider Black Sparkle Gel (purchased at Target). It gave their eyes a little added twinkle.
  • I placed a white chocolate baking morsel on top of each ghost. (for added personality)

Directions for Spooky Boo Brownies

  • Follow baking directions on the brownie box (9 by 13 inch pan). When fully cooked let them cool for about 30 minutes.
  • Cut the brownies into individual segments. Place them on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper.
  • Put a marshmallow on top of each brownie. (Be mindful of how the marshmallow is shaped)
  • The recipe calls to microwave the icing. I chose to heat the frosting on the stove. Stir slowly until it’s fluid like (heat on low – medium temperature.) * Not too thin of a consistency
  • Using a measuring cup, drizzle the frosting onto the marshmallow (take your time). If the frosting starts to harden reheat.
  • The recipe calls to place the brownies in the fridge. I let them harden room temperature. It prevents the brownies from loosing their flavor (20 minutes).
  • Take the Black Sparkle gel, cut tube at a slant. Practice drawing on a piece of wax paper to get the feel of it.
  • Here comes the fun part, when creating the faces think of your guest’s personalities. Each little ghost is unique! Add the white chocolate morsel to finish.
  • Place the brownies in a container, or saran wrap to seal in flavor. Do not refrigerate.

By baking the brownies, I realized you don’t have to be a master chef to do this. If you really want to make that little creation, do it! What’s stopping you? Seeing my friends truly enjoy the treat was well worth it!

Thank you for letting me share my Pinterest success!!
